Bush Voters Don’t Get To Cut and Run

Bull Rush #1: Posted March 10, 2006

According to the latest (3/10/06) Associated Press poll, George W. Bush’s approval rating has dropped to a new low. Only 37% of Americans approve of the President, while a whopping 70% think that the country is on the wrong track. These numbers suggest the undecided voters the President wooed in 2004 have soured on the boy king during these troubled times.

I challenge all erstwhile Bush supporters turned telephone survey answerers to have the courage of your convictions and stand by the idiotic swashbuckler you have chosen to lead this country into ground of incompetent despotism. You foisted this man upon us. Now you must take responsibility for those actions.

Every election cycle some otherwise reasonable person questions the validity of voting along party lines. I suffer some ridiculous suggestion about how “both parties are the same” or “neither candidate gets me excited” and must listen as if the former were true or the latter mattered at all. These people jump on whatever disingenuous sound bytes catch their attention in the two months leading up to election and try to jump on the rising ship. Later, when their chosen imbecile screws everything up and nothing can be done about it, they then tell complete strangers over the phone that the other guy would have done a better job. In sports we call these people “frontrunners”; in music we call these people “posers”; in politics, we let them pick the President.

So I say to you capricious flowers of electoral clout: This time—this one time—you have to stick with the hag you brought to the dance. You have to wear the tie your little girl bought you, just like you promised her. It’s called accountability. It is you, the undecided voter, that allowed this man to continue running things even after you knew he had no discernable talents, started a war on false pretenses, hired only his buddies for important positions, and ultimately didn’t give a damn about you, your family, or your values if you happened to live in the path of Class 4 hurricane. The evil Holy Grail stealing guy doesn’t let the cute but corrupt German girl drink from the supposed Cup of Christ first. No, he drinks from it first, and therefore he has to sit there contemplating the mistakes of his life while his face melts off into an uncomfortable sludge-like goo.

If you honestly feel bad for the morass of incompetence and violence you have wrought on your fellow Americans, if you really accept responsibility for your foul judgments that led you to pull a lever or push a button in favor of our current President, than there is one thing you can do. Cut him off at the knees and vote straight down the Democratic Party line this November. If there are really 70% of people who think that the country is on the wrong track, I hope that there are 51% of people out there who realize that there is only one party in power, only one organization leading us down this infested path. Instead of trying to figure out “who is the better candidate” and which guy you have a “better feeling about” and all these other intellectual pursuits and analyses that have lead you astray in the past, this time, vote one single ticket. Check the ineptitude of your chosen President by balancing the levers of government this fall. It’s the only way to stop him. It’s the only way to admit your sins and ask for forgiveness.

You don’t have to make this decision now. You’ve got eight months to reflect on what you have done the other 48% of Americans who voted in your best interests. Eight months to think through how and why you managed to ever support such a flaming imbecile. I can only hope that instead of blaming others, you commit yourself to rectifying this tragedy you have wrought on the rest of us.
